I know I have already spoken about street art in London, but I like it so much that I couldn’t resist the temptation to tell you about Space Invaders after I saw one pinned on the Go Find It map! I really like the little pixelated Space Invaders: it reminds me of the first video games I played during my childhood. Even now I find them more entertaining than most of the sophisticated 3D games of today. Maybe that’s because I’m nostalgic, what do you think?
The other thing I like about Space Invaders is that they are hidden everywhere: in cities such as London and Paris or even Rennes (next time I go to Brittany, remind me to take some pictures).
Also, there is nothing I like more than to randomly look up and come across one of these colorful aliens. Although sometimes, even if it is obvious, I’m so preoccupied with my own thoughts that I don’t even notice what’s around me. My best example of this is the giant black and yellow Space Invader not far from Liverpool Street tube station. I discovered it last year when I did a street art tour of Shoreditch, as Melina already advised: you should do it too. I can’t believe I walked alongside this brilliant piece of street art everyday for three months on my way to work without noticing it! How about you, have you seen it yet?
Ten days ago I was off to France for the wedding of my best friend. As we’ve known each other since we were ten years old I was the bridesmaid. That was fantastic news.
But as you know going to a wedding means that you have to find nice things to wear. So before I left I needed to find the right outfit: this meant I could go on an exciting shopping spree without feeling guilty to spend money. For once I had a good excuse! I’m sure you know what I mean…
I found the dress and the shoes rather quickly but I wanted a special bag (I’m in love with bags!) to perfectly complement my outfit. I decided to try my luck in some trendyvintage stores around Brick Lane and Shoreditch. My steps led me to Old Street, where I discovered a really interesting shop called Sneaker freaks. This might not exactly be the right place to find smart and girly handbags but there was some very cool clothes and shoes! Eventhough I didn’t find my bag in there I found some nice shoes for my brother.
I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to dig out some nice stuff for your boyfriend or your brother as well. Have a look, I’m sure you like it.
A couple of days ago I visited Shoreditch in search of a flat. Unfortunately I didn’t find a flat but instead found a wide range of stunning street art. Even though I was supposed to be somewhere else I kept walking along the streets just to be able to see more of the artwork that’s been created on walls, doors, bridges, basically everywhere you could imagine. Every corner is filled with art, with some of it actually created by famous street artists like Banksy, Obey and Shepard Fairey. Walking around I was amazed how a whole city district can be covered in graffiti the way Shoreditch is. It really gives it a distinctive look and certain atmosphere.
I don’t know if you like street art but if you do, you really should check out the area around Shoreditch and even Brick Lane. It’s a street art experience extraordinaire! Of course if you don’t live in the UK, you can always check out the video below, or browse the Find It map to check out some of the pieces of art lying around East London, such as this Eine’s piece of art near Cargo!
