music I want to learn about Jazz music

I have never been a big fan of Jazz music or, to be fair, I should say that I never took the time to attentively listen to this music genre but today I have a bit more to tell you about this.

Indeed, I am currently planning a new trip to Paris (I know, I know…) but I would like to do something else, something different rather than the usual sunny terrace or the modern art museum. I’m really far away from being bored with this but it would be silly to content myself with always doing the same kind of things since Paris is so huge and so full of new places to discover!

I spend my time with music in my ears but, actually I always listen to the same bands. I thought it would be nice to plan a music trip and I started to email a couple of friends reputed to be ‘the’ experts on the subject amongst my pals.

One of them mentioned a jazz club close to Châtelet-les-Halles. Well, actually the interesting thing is there are in reality two jazz clubs: the Sunset, dedicated to electro jazz and the Sunside, for the acoustic jazz fans. It’s a pretty good way to discover a new universe rather than just one kind of music. In addition to this: they apparently have concerts almost every night! I am really looking forward to going there and coming back with thoughts and feelings to share with you.

During a walk with a friend I happened to come across this amazing CD/DVD store called Fopp. The store is quite hard to find: you have to walk up Charing Cross Road until you reach the crossroads with Shaftesbury Avenue. The storefront doesn’t look like anything special so it’s a miracle that I managed to find it on my walk.

This three-floor store is really nice to shop in and provides a wide range of music, movies & books, mostly indie and rare stuff, at great prices. You can find one-off bargains ranging from 3 to 6 pounds. Actually the prices are so suspiciously low that I had to ask a shop assistant how they managed to work them out.

Even if you’re not a DVD collector, you can’t leave the store empty handed! It’s also a perfect destination if you’re looking for a gift for someone.

Since my first time in Fopp I often stop by to pick up new DVDs. I wish it was the same prices everywhere, I really think people would buy more CDs and DVDs. Anyway, pop in and you’ll hopefully see what I mean.

If you have read the “about” section of the Go Find It blog you might know that we are all from different countries and that I’m the one from Lille in France. I spent three amazing years in this city. Lille is a really cool place where a lot of cultural and musical events take place all year round. If you have never visited the city I strongly recommend you to go there if only for a day.

When in Lille, I can also recommend you to go to a cool place which is close to my old flat and where I used to have great times with my friends: it’s a small and lovely bar called le Caf&Disquaire ( “Cafaydeesker” is fine if you are English!). There you can have both drinks and buy cool CDs. If you are a huge fan of music I’m sure you’ll discover some trendy new artists that you’d like to share with your friends, as I used to do. They even give concerts sometimes, check the Caf&Disquaire MySpace for more details.

Oh, by the way, if you stop by during lunch time, I think they do sandwiches as well. I wonder if there is anything they can’t do? Try it and let me know!
