design Shopping in North London

Sherin is one of the lovely fashion bloggers who attended the Ka JOY store event and searched for the Ka miniatures. As we like her blog and her style we were curious to know about her favourite places, so we caught up with Sherin to ask her about that:

Who are you in a few words?

My name is Sherin and I live in London. I’ve just graduated from university so I’m figuring out what to do with my life right now. But I love to go out, meet new people and just have fun.

You run your blog HiFashion with Leia: could you tell us a bit more about the blog and this unique partnership?

HiFashion is a lifestyle blog. We mainly focus on fashion, but also like to add health and everyday life tips. We started it about 9 months ago, and it’s just so much fun to write and get to know other bloggers.
I and Leia were friends at university and both shared a love for fashion. Between us we realised that there were quite a few fashion related blogs out there, so we decided that it would be fun to start our own.

We have seen a bit of your choice of clothes and accessories on the pictures and the video of the event but how would you define your personal style?

At the event, I’d just come from work, so my outfit wasn’t the most creative. But I think my style is quite hard to define. I suppose it’s casual, but also quite fun. I like to add colour to my outfits as well as mix and match different styles. I like to mix an edgy look with more feminine things, so I’ll pair Converses with a dress, or add lots of accessories when wearing a cool t-shirt and jeans.

What is your favourite secret place to shop in London?

I live in North London, and it’s filled with great little places to shop. Crouch End, Muswell Hill and Hampstead have great little independent boutiques, with stuff you won’t find anywhere else, along with great little restaurants. But out of the 3, Crouch End has to be my favourite place.

What are your favourite songs to listen to when you go on a shopping trip?

This is a really tough one. I have such a wide range of stuff on my MP3 player, and just put it all on random. I think Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ always puts me in a perfect mood to shop. I also have a lot of Rock on my MP3 player, such as Guns N’ Roses and Florence and the Machine, which gives me a lot of energy to be on my feet all day. But I definitely have more American rock than anything else on my MP3 player.

And after a long afternoon of shopping where do you like to relax?

There are such amazing parks to relax in, Hyde Park is great because you have that boating lake and it’s just so relaxing to sit in the boats (unless you’re the one actually peddling). But for me, nothing compares to just sitting at home and relaxing with a good book.

Make sure to check out HiFashion and if you have any questions for Sherin feel free to post them in the comments.

street art Cupcakes in Kensington

Close to where a friend of mine lives we discovered a cute little cupcake shop. I know there are millions of cupcake shops around London, but this is one of my favourites.

It’s called Buttercup and it’s located in a quiet area just off High Street Kensington. I enjoy the fact that it’s tucked away in a residential area without any other shops surrounding it (apart from a pub a bit further down the road). This makes it feel a lot more genuine somehow. I also adore the green and pink outside; it’s so sweet, almost as sweet as their amazing cupcakes.

I’m usually not a fan of cupcakes but the tasty, though not too sugary icing, makes it impossible not to like these ones. Try them and let me know what you think!

social Benny’s Bar in Brick Lane

I spent last Friday night with some friends trying out different bars and pubs. None off us is from London originally so we are still exploring the nightlife here.

All the places we visited were nice in their own way, the first, Red lion, is a typical British pub but had cheap beer, which always is appreciated.  Then we went to an amazing place called Beach Blanket Babylon, the interior just blew me away. The night ended in a place called Casa Blue where we order a fishbowl with long island tea and enjoyed the huge shared drink.

But the place that I really wanted to tell you about is called Benny’s bar, and was the bar we went to just after Beach Blanket Babylon. It’s new and located just at the end of Brick lane on Bethnal Green road.

The outside is all pink so it’s hard to miss. But this little Mexican inspired bar hides a real gem: the coolest and cosiest beer garden I’ve ever been to.

It’s small and narrow, the high wooden tables are accompanied by stools made out of plastic boxes with a wooden plate on top. Above your head we could see strings of light bulbs in red, green and yellow. The wall is covered in street art inspired by Mexican skulls. This place is made for friends wanting to enjoy some laughter outside in a hidden beer garden just off one of the trendiest areas in London.

Also this bar hides another gem: an art gallery by the name of Austin Gallery.
