music Dancing at Debaser

I know I’ve already tweeted about this but I think Debaser (one of my favourite clubs) deserves a whole post and not just a tweet.

There is 4 Debaser clubs in Sweden, one in Malmö and three in Stockholm: Medborgarplatsen, Slussen and Humlegården.

I’ve never been to the one in Malmö but I’ve been to the other three and I like them all, but my favourite is definitely the one in Slussen.

It’s not the easiest place to find if you don’t know where you’re going. It’s hidden underneath a bridge and the only thing giving it away is the queue outside. Well, to be fair,  in the summer the terrace gives it away as well.

When you get inside you’re greeted by a dark interior, great indie/rock music and occasionally a live band (the bands are mostly playing at Debaser Medis though). All the people look gorgeous and the dance floor is always packed. Mind that there are not too many places to sit and the beer is served in plastic glasses. But that somehow adds up to the feel. Besides, there’s no need to sit at Debaser as the music makes you want to dance all night long.

I’m off to Sweden on Sunday and I’m going to make sure to get my dose of Debaser. If you’re in Stockholm (or Malmö) you should do the same.

social Do you know any cool places in Amsterdam?

Next week some of my friends are going to Amsterdam (at the moment they are visiting me in London). It’s not the first time they’re going there, so they know several places to visit and to party at. However, they would like to discover more and other cooler places than the ones they already know.

Like me, they don’t like to use conventional tourist guides when they travel, so I advised them to take a look at the go find it map.

While we were browsing the map we quickly found lots of cool stuff. As they’re only staying in Amsterdam for a short while they wrote a list with several places to visit. Here’s the list:

Do you have any other suggestion for them?  Please share them on the comments, they’ll really appreciate it!

social How to philosophize at the restaurant

Last weekend I was lucky enough to spend some time in Paris with my friends. The town was warm and sunny, people were gone on their holidays and Paris Beach was just waiting for us. All the elements were in place: so I fell in love with Paris – once again!

I particularly enjoyed the time spent musing on terraces of cafés or restaurants. Amongst the few places I tried during this heavenly mini-vacation, I remember ‘Les Philosophes’, located in Le Marais, in an old but trendy street.

I don’t know what the best part was: the lovely neighbours on the terrace, the unceasing smile of the waiter or the appetizing menu with local and fresh food or even the 280€ bottle of wine. Can you believe that? I’m not sure if the bathroom can be the best part of a restaurant but here, it surely was the most surprising…

As you probably guessed, ‘Les Philosophes’ means ‘The Philosophers’. So, inside the restaurant it is all about philosophy, even in the toilets! Indeed, the bathroom is full of mirrors, customized with messages and when you look at yourself, it is like your own conscience was talking to you. For instance, when you wash your hands you have the choice between ‘I doubt’ and ‘I’m aware’. Disconcerting experience… Which one would you have chosen?
